🤎 I'll never forget the year I became keenly aware of the magnitude and beauty of Malcolm X, the man, the liberator, the warrior. I was a freshman in college at Hampton University and I remember reading the "Autobiography of Malcolm X" by Alex Haley, and feeling immediately drawn to his spirit and the significance of who he was to the world. I was overwhelmed with the power of his words and his COURAGE to walk the journey he’d been given to walk. I cried because of the way they murdered him in front of his family and because he sacrificed so much for us all. I remember feeling empowered and so proud of the man, born, Malcolm Little, who would change his name after a pilgrimage to Mecca, to el-Hajj el-Malik Shabazz. This visit sparked an internal evolution for Malcolm. He returned a changed man.

His words spoke life into me as a young, black woman coming of age in a world full of inequality and racism. He taught me to never back down and to never give up. I apply this to my daily life even now. But mostly, I fell in love with his heart; with the way he loved God, his family and his people. I named this candle, COURAGE, because even though Malcolm knew he was going to be assassinated, he journeyed forward with courage and an indomitable spirit despite his fear. He knew he would become a Martyr. He knew that he would die and yet, he still fought for us. He still continued on, for the greater good. He taught us to fight for liberty and to never back down from the oppression of racism and inequality and injustice. I loved that about him. His destiny was so profoundly exceptional. I wish he was here with us today- we need him so.

This love affair with such an exceptional human being has called me to honor his legacy with this duo of candles. Creating these candles was a true passion project for me. He never really gets the glory and honor that he deserves, so this is my small tribute to one of the world’s greatest heroes. You will want these candles as a keepsake to have forever.🤎

 Brief Bio:

 Malcolm X was an African American leader in the civil rights movement, minister and supporter of Black nationalism. He urged his fellow Black Americans to protect themselves against white aggression “by any means necessary,” a stance that often put him at odds with the nonviolent teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr. His charisma and oratory skills helped him achieve national prominence in the Nation of Islam, a belief system that merged Islam with Black nationalism. After Malcolm X’s assassination in 1965, his bestselling book, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, popularized his ideas and inspired the Black Power movement.
